Recipe For: Crock Pot or Other Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce

This is an American favorite--a hearty meat sauce with great flavor. It's easy to prepare, and always a hit. I like to use ground sirloin for the beef, but you can use regular hamburger and get good results.

Prep Time: About 20 minutes

Time in Cooker: 6-8 hours on low

Degree of Difficulty Rating: Easy

3/4 pounds ground beef
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
28 ounces finely chopped tomatoes
16 ounces tomato sauce
1/2 cup green pepper, finely chopped
1/4 cup mushroom stems and pieces
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon basil
1 bay leaf
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon sea salt

Directions: Put the beef, onion and garlic in a frying pan. Soften the onion and garlic as you crumble and brown the ground beef. Then put everything into the slow cooker pot and stir it up real good. Cover and cook for 6-8 hours on low. Add more salt as needed to taste. Remove the bay leaf, and serve sauce with freshly cooked spaghetti. It's that easy. Yum!

Chef’s Tips: For maximum flavor, use freshly ground black pepper.
